Seeds
Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG manufactures small, permanent, radioactive implants so called seeds, which are used in LDR brachytherapy, mainly in the treatment of localised prostate cancer. The seeds take the form of little capsules containing a minuscule quantity of a radioactive isotope, I-125 (Iodine-125). They are implanted into the prostate, where they remain permanently and destroy the cancer cells. Permanent LDR brachytherapy with small radioactive sources is highly effective, especially in early stages of prostate cancer and causes relatively low side effects in comparison to alternative treatment options.
Two different types of seeds are available: IsoSeed® I25.S06 and IsoSeed® I25.S17.
They are offered in different configurations: as loose (IsoSeed®), or stranded (IsoCord®, IsoStrand®) seeds.
In addition to radioactive implants, Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG also provides full installation to hospitals, including treatment planning software (such as PSID), ultrasound scanners and a complete range of accessories, as well as professional training.
IsoSeed®
Seed implant for the treatment of prostate cancer with excellent visibility. IsoSeed® are loose seeds with excellent visibility and highest quality. Equipped with a golden (IsoSeed® I25.S06) or metal (IsoSeed® I25.S17) marker, Eckert & Ziegler BEBIG's seeds are particularly suitable for ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT or MRI visibility as required by the customer. The Titanium capsule of IsoSeed® guarantees full biocompatibility.

IsoCord®
IsoCord® is a seed chain with max. 75 seeds delivered in a safe and convenient magazine, which guarantees optimal radiation protection. During the whole process of loading the needles, the user is protected by integrated radiation shielding. IsoCord® provides excellent strand placement characteristics and outstanding visibility under X-ray and ultrasound. Moreover its special design enables optimal fixation in the prostate tissue considerably reducing the migration rate.
The unique strand cutting device IsoCord® Needle Loading Station allows safe and convenient cutting of the strand and direct loading of the implantation needles.
IsoCord® can be delivered with any IsoSeed® type.

IsoStrand®
IsoStrand® consists of 10 IsoSeed® spaced 1 cm apart. The unique design of the biodegradable spacers and the structure of the outer suture ensures excellent strand placement.

SmartSeed®
SmartSeed® with SmartLoader® is a unique innovative seed concept with a variable spacing, starting from 0.5 cm. Its innovative design allows the strand to follow the curvature of the prostate shape, thus providing more accurate dose coverage to the base of the prostate. Any desired strand configuration can be achieved in a safe and easy way using SmartLoader®, giving the physician more flexibility to treat the patient according to his individual requirements.
